As Publisher/Editor of Macaroni Kid, my goal is to give you a calendar full of events of things to do with the entire family, informative articles, awesome giveaways and hopefully provide a few little smiles along the way.

Each year when school starts, it feels like a "second new year's day'"--a chance for a fresh start or finding inspiration in a renewed sense of creativity and motivation. As a mom, I hope I can encourage my kids to start off the new school year that way when they go back next week.

I also plan to "walk the walk" as I am planning some improvements to the newsletter and I am looking for feedback from all of you. What would you like to see more of in the newsletter? Are there certain topics, types of stories or features you want more of each week. Let me know what you'd like to see in future editions by leaving a comment below and you could win a $25 Target Gift Card! (You must be at least 18 years old and a newsletter subscriber. By leaving a comment below you give MK permission to add you to our free subscriber list!)

Today marks only week to go before my kids head back to school. Our school shopping is done, so I'm trying to cram as much summer fun as I can with them before they start classes and things get even more crazy! You can check the events calendar for some ideas for your own family.

Make sure you are following us on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest for the latest updates on events, ideas and other important news for the entire family! Just click the daisy links below to link to our social networks!

Have a wonderful week and I'll see you around online!

~Marie

Technology and kids! At what age are kids doing/getting what? iPods, ds, phones, notebooks, laptops, etc? What about the ages on games? Are there age suggestions for apps? What apps are good for what ages? Etc.

I love sharing new parks or some of the best parks to take little ones too. Love to be outdoors, but kids start getting bored with the same places.

I would love to see more local deals/coupons. Like a list a the "kids eat free" places and what days. Or events that are free or discounted to get in that are family friendly or just deals in general.

Reminders of where kids eat free are great, as well as reviews of family-friendly restaurants. I also love the local parks idea - I'm always looking for fun (and low cost/free) places to take the kiddos! Perhaps also heads-up on sales at local clothing places (my favorite is Once Upon a Child, definitely).

These are all great ideas! The kids eat free section was something we've done before, but they change so often that I was getting a lot of messages from frustrated parents that said it wasn't accurate. So, I'm trying to work on a way that will have an extensive list and relatively easy to maintain accuracy. The apps reviews and recommendations were already on my radar because I am a tech geek! LOL! I'm lining some reviews up to start this feature within the next few weeks. The HW help is an easier one for me because as a former teacher, I have a lot of expertise in that area. The parks overview is a fantastic concept, too. I hope to be working with Metroparks on this one once school starts Thanks for all the incredible ideas! Keep em coming!
